What services can a nurse practitioner (APRN) provide?
Nurse practitioners are advanced practice registered nurses who can provide care in numerous settings throughout the healthcare environment. NPs achieve masters level to doctorate level of graduate education and obtain national board certification.
Services provided by nurse practitioners include, but are not limited to:
- Diagnosis and management of chronic and acute conditions
- Disease prevention
- Wellness and annual visits
- Health promotion
- Patient assessment and physicals
- Ordering, performing, overseeing and reading diagnostic and lab tests
- Patient education and counseling
- Prescribing medications and treatments
What services can a physician assistant provide?
Physician assistants (PA) work in many healthcare specialties. PAs attend and graduate from accredited physician assistant programs, masters level and beyond, and pass a national certification examination. They are licensed within their state of practice.

- Taking medical histories
- Diagnosis and management of chronic and acute conditions
